Summer 2004 Teams
June 25-
July 11, 2004
Our first team this summer left the US on June 25, 2004. After arriving in Kiev we joined up with the Ukrainian team members, Angelo & Kim Weynen, and Vitalik Dudukaloff. Upon arriving in Kerch the 32 member team spent the first day organizing and splitting into 3 outreach teams. Kim and Angelo lead a team that ministered to orphaned children in a remote village approximately 30 Kilometers outside of Kerch. Their team was made up of students from the Ukrainian Theological Evangelical Seminary (UTES), St James Bible School (in Kiev), Colorado Christian University student, Stephanie Colan, plus Jana Sunberg and Emily McLean from Colorado. (Team member testimonies to follow in later update
The second team was lead by Vitalik, his team ministered in Rasheed's orphanage in Kerch. Incredible relationships were developed with the children and orphanage staff members. Vitalik's team was made up of students from UTES, St. James and the Deeming family, Jim, Linda, Stephanie and Ben. This was their first missions trip.
VITALIK'S TESTIMONY
The summer camp of this year I would call -
harmony. Each person of our team has given the best for the ministry to the children. Each program was well prepared and performed from all heart.
One of the biggest improvement steps in program quality this year was the 3 day preparation workshop that was done in Kiev with active participation of all students invited to summer camps. Students themselves were compiling all 10 programs. They had themes for each day and they had to develop skits, songs and games to fit the theme. When we all came to our ministry sites our programs were made up and practiced, the only thing we had to do was to adapt them for our circumstances and the age of children. The word flexibility still was used often. I have to say about the attitude of each team member. Absolutely all were completely dedicated to the ministry. Each one was willing to participate in a play or song, if someone didn't know how to do things they were willing to learn quickly. It was a pleasure to work with such team. Our team members were building personal relationships with children learning about their needs, helping them with advice and, of course, leading them to the faith in Jesus Christ. Such relationships remain in the memory of kids the longest. Jesus becomes for them not merely a program but also a close friend. While we were in the camp many gifts were given to the kids. But the most important for them were their pictures we took. As soon as one of us would come out with a camera they would be right there asking to take their picture or in a group or with one of the team members. Such gift is for the rest of their life. It will remind them not only about us but also about Jesus that they've heard about so much that summer. I want to thank all of our team members both Ukrainians and Americans who were part of our orphanage camp in the summer 2004 for your dedication and desire to take the most wonderful news to the most forgotten people. May God bless you, your reward is waiting for you in heaven.

Summer 2004 Sevastopol
July 23-
August 8, 2004
The second group left Kiev on July 25 for Sevastopol. Marina and Chris lead a team who ministered in Camp Gorney. There were approximately 160 orphans in the camp, all from Sevastopol orphanages. This was our 5
th
ministry outreach in Camp Gorney and the children were excited to see our group. Our faithful American and The Least of These board member, Chris Watkins, was given an abundance of glass beads which we in turn transported to Ukraine specifically for Camp Gorney. The children were given free reign to string the beads any way they wanted. By the end of the second week there was hardly a bead to be found that was not around a neck, wrist or ankle. The children also did Tie-dye t-shirts for the first time and they loved it. It was so much fun to watch the creativity unfold as each t-shirt was opened up. Their comment was, These were the best things they have ever done.
MARINA'S TESTIMONY
Last summer we had a wonderful ministry in Crimea Camp Gorny! Our team was not big (9 people), but we were able to do a lot. Each morning we would have our programs where we had children of all ages. This was the difficulty because we had to be interesting for kids of all ages. Games were very good with older kids. The first ministry was the most difficult, children were not open. But with each following program it was easier. Children were trusting us more and felt more confident with us. The most exciting part of our ministry was Tie-Die T-shirts that were given to the kids. All of them got an ocean of pleasure and a lot of Tie-Die spots on their hands, legs, and clothing.
This year we brought some video tapes about abortions. The camp director permitted us to meet with older girls in order to show them the tape and talk with them about the meaning of a family.
The conversation with them turned out very serious and heavy for all of us. We all were crying. Most of them are from bad families. We showed them a skit about abortions. We told them how to escape from abortions, how to keep yourself in purity. We prayed that the curse of a bad family would be stop by their lives, that they would have good families and happy children. Unfortunately the statistics tells us that most of people raised in the orphanage would take their babies to an orphanage too. The other day we have gathered with older boys. We also showed them the tape about abortions, taught them about responsibility for children and family, about purity. They listened with much attention. At the end we suggested them to make dedication bracelet to live a pure life before God. Seven boys have done it. In the evenings when there was no disco we would show kids some Christian movies which they loved a lot. Before we left many kids would tell us how they loved the time of being together. Not only children were ministered to, God have touched hearts of our team members. They left overflowing with joy that God sent them to this ministry. Some of them got a new vision for their lives. These children don't have the important things - love, attention, care of a mother or a father. And they suffer because of that. Most of them are smoking from 7 years old. Big thanks to all of our team for the wonderful time of ministry to these children.
