Summer 2004 Teams
June 25-
July 11, 2004
Our first team this summer left the US on June 25, 2004. After arriving in Kiev we joined up with the Ukrainian team members, Angelo & Kim Weynen, and Vitalik Dudukaloff. Upon arriving in Kerch the 32 member team spent the first day organizing and splitting into 3 outreach teams. Kim and Angelo lead a team that ministered to orphaned children in a remote village approximately 30 Kilometers outside of Kerch. Their team was made up of students from the Ukrainian Theological Evangelical Seminary (UTES), St James Bible School (in Kiev), Colorado Christian University student, Stephanie Colan, plus Jana Sunberg and Emily McLean from Colorado. (Team member testimonies to follow in later update
The second team was lead by Vitalik, his team ministered in Rasheed's orphanage in Kerch. Incredible relationships were developed with the children and orphanage staff members. Vitalik's team was made up of students from UTES, St. James and the Deeming family, Jim, Linda, Stephanie and Ben. This was their first missions trip.
VITALIK'S TESTIMONY
The summer camp of this year I would call -
harmony. Each person of our team has given the best for the ministry to the children. Each program was well prepared and performed from all heart.
One of the biggest improvement steps in program quality this year was the 3 day preparation workshop that was done in Kiev with active participation of all students invited to summer camps. Students themselves were compiling all 10 programs. They had themes for each day and they had to develop skits, songs and games to fit the theme. When we all came to our ministry sites our programs were made up and practiced, the only thing we had to do was to adapt them for our circumstances and the age of children. The word flexibility still was used often. I have to say about the attitude of each team member. Absolutely all were completely dedicated to the ministry. Each one was willing to participate in a play or song, if someone didn't know how to do things they were willing to learn quickly. It was a pleasure to work with such team. Our team members were building personal relationships with children learning about their needs, helping them with advice and, of course, leading them to the faith in Jesus Christ. Such relationships remain in the memory of kids the longest. Jesus becomes for them not merely a program but also a close friend. While we were in the camp many gifts were given to the kids. But the most important for them were their pictures we took. As soon as one of us would come out with a camera they would be right there asking to take their picture or in a group or with one of the team members. Such gift is for the rest of their life. It will remind them not only about us but also about Jesus that they've heard about so much that summer. I want to thank all of our team members both Ukrainians and Americans who were part of our orphanage camp in the summer 2004 for your dedication and desire to take the most wonderful news to the most forgotten people. May God bless you, your reward is waiting for you in heaven.
